About Karen Black
Karen Black has more than two decades of experience providing professional services to businesses in such key management areas as leadership development, teambuilding, conflict resolution and coaching. Each of these disciplines is critical to the continued growth and long term profitability of any size company, in every type of industry.
Since 1991 Karen, through her company Insight Edge, has worked with 50-plus businesses and organizations to help them increase their overall organizational effectiveness and substantially contribute to bottom line improvement.
As both a coach and mentor to business executives, human resources department and management teams, Karen has consistently demonstrated that improved communication within companies is often the single most important feature of truly successful organizations.
Karen initially was trained in the field of Special Education, receiving her B.S. at St. Cloud State University. She also holds an M.S. in Management and an M.A. in Conflict management and Dispute Resolution, both from Baker University in Baldwin, Kansas and serves on the Adjunct Faculty at Baker University.
In addition to her degrees, Karen has received variety of specialized professional training and certifications. She is a Certified Life Coach, recognition received from the International College of Coaching and has also been certified as Self as Mediator and Manager as Mediator. She has participated in training through the Women's leadership Institute at Avila College and from the University of Missouri Executive Development Institute.
But while Karen brings a thorough and well grounded academic background to her work, equally important is her real world business accomplishments in sales and corporate management.
Beginning in 1980 she served in a variety of sales management positions eventually becoming Director of Sales and Marketing for Radisson Hotel Corporation properties in Wisconsin and in Kansas City, Missouri. Karen later worked as a Human Resources Development Specialist with Farmland Industries and has served as Executive Director for a United Way-funded not-for-profit organization, Project Turnaround.
This blend of practical application knowledge and professional expertise makes her an especially savvy and effective facilitator in all types and sizes of organizations.
Karen has also been an active volunteer helping individuals and communities. She has worked with gifted kids and taught on a Papago Indian Reservation and been recognized as Volunteer of the Year by the Women's Employment Network.
She has served on area civic committees including The SpiritFest and the American Royal Parade and is currently a member of the Heartland Coaching Alliance and the Central Exchange.
